BUILDING AND ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING

Total Duration: 360 hours

Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to give the trainees the basic skill of civil and architectural drafting. After the completion of this course, trainees will be able to draw buildings, culvert, bridges and their detailed drawings and calculations related to civil and architectural drafting.

Detailed syllabus:

1. Related science and terms:

a. Introduction to linear, square and cubic measurements.
b. Units of angular measurements.
c. Metric system unit and equivalent English system.
d. Square root.
e. Area of triangles, square rectangles, polygons circles and irregular fields.
f. Determination of volume of construction work.
g. Common abbreviation and terms.

2. Trade Theory:

Unit‐1

a. Introduction of the course its aim and objectives.
b. Use and care of drawing instruments and materials.
c. Description pencil and pencil points.
d. Importance of lettering and alphabet of lines in a drawing.
e. Definition of scales, its construction and uses. Definition and classification projections, its importance in drafting.

Unit‐2

a. Definition and description or different kinds of bonds.
b. Necessity uses of symbols.

Unit‐3

a. Definition and uses or different kinds of formulations.
b. Definition uses or different kinds of floor their construction methods, materials used.
c. Definition of floors and flat roofs.
d. Definition or pitched roof.
i) Kind post
ii) Queen post and
iii) Steel truss.
e. Definition of arch its classification and uses.
f. Definition of unlet and its uses.

Unit‐4

a. Knowledge of plan and planning, remark spaces for a residential building, commercial building and cultural centre, their position and uses.
b. Knowledge of different parts of a building.
c. Knowledge of stair, classification and different parts.
d. Different types of external and internal finishing.
e. Knowledge of different types of structural steel.
i) Hook
ii) Crack
iii) Bead
g. Definition door and window.

Unit‐5

Knowledge of culverts and bridges, their parts and use.

Unit‐6

a. Knowledge of tracing materials, equipments and procedure.
b. Knowledge of machine for ammonia printing, blue printing and their operation.

3. Trade practice:

Unit‐1

a. Introduction of drawing instruments, their uses and care.
b. Introduction of drawing materials, their uses and care.
c. Graphs, lettering (Architectural Gothic) alphabet of lines, line techniques and Geometrical drawings.
d. Construction of plain and diagonal scale.
e. Projections (isometric, orthographic and two point perspective) of blocks.

Unit‐2

a. Different types of bonds, corner points and partition walls of different thickness.
b. Symbols used in Architecture and structural drawings.

Unit‐3

a. Different types of foundations floors, racks (flat and pitched wooden steel trusses).
b. Different types of arches.
c. Lintels and lintels with sunshade.

Unit‐4

a. Plan, elevation and section of a single‐storied building.
b. Plan & section of half turn, quarter turn, and geometrical stair.
c. Plan, elevation and section of a residential multi‐storied building.
d. Detail Architectural and structural drawing of the multi‐storied building.
e. Detail of wooden doors and window.
f. Detail drawing or scent window.

Unit‐5

a. Plan, section and elevation of a simple culvert.
b. Half top plan and half plan (decking and earth removed of R.C.C, T‐beam bridge with splayed
type wing wall).

Unit‐6

a. Tracing with ink, use of a rapid graph, lettering stencil, templates & lay outset.
b. Reproduction of the drawing.
